I began entering employees in my new PT Accounting 2003. After I click on Maintain, Employee, it takes a really long time (almost a minute) to let me enter the ID. Then is takes a long time (almost another minute) to enter the first name. After that I can move to each filed very quickly. This only happens in Payroll, not A/P or A/R. Any ideas how to speed this up or why it's so slow?

It shouldn't take that kind of time to pull up the screen. Can you be more specific to your hardware settings? What OS? Are you on a network?

Also by "new PT Accounting 2003" do you mean that you are a new user of PT or have converted an existing database to 2003 and now Maintain Employee is much slower? If the latter, how many employees do you have?

Our OS is Windows XP Pro on a Novell Netware 4.12 server

I am a new user to PT Accounting 2003. I am just starting to enter the employees. I have about 25 employees entered. I am the only user on the system so far. I purchased the multi-user package if that makes any difference.

Try copying the company data to a local drive and see if the performance changes dramatically. If so the problem is your network.
BTW, I've never really understood why people use Novell with Microsoft Servers since they already have networking built in. Can you shed some light?

Well, its not a MS Server, its a Compaq server running NetWare 4.12 with Win XP Pro nodes attached.
The reason is a more efficent means of only file and print service, and one place to worry about for data backup. We have 14 users, only three of which are for PAW. PAW users are assigned to a group which has the drive letter of "N" mapped to a data subdirectory, to which they only have access. PAW core program is located on each node.
Is it a server problem? Well, at least as of this date, it would appear yes. However, we don't know if its PeachTree related or not, because it seems all functions have slowed since the PAW installation. Why? Coincidence? Who knows?
Installed on a stand alone XP machine, the redraws and screen access are very fast, even with the company data ported over to the single machine.

OK, you now know it runs fast locally. Now try moving your data to one of the other XP Pro systems, map a drive letter, and try accessing the data that way. That should tell you whether it is a network problem or a NetWare problem.
