importing to peach from excel

Hello all, I am trying to import sales information into peachtree from an excel spreadsheet. The import seems to work fine for a single entry. However, when all the entries are considered I get an error message, which points to the field containing the invoice number. I am using "Peachtree Complete Accounting 2005" How do I get past this error? :confused:

In these cases it is best to do an export of the sales journal, look at the fields used, and the formatting. Then use this export as a template to import your data.

Thanks TheWolf. I have tried that and it does not work.

The problem seems to be in the invoice no. field. When you create an invoice in Peachtree, it generates the rest automatically. But when you import the sales journal, the invoice numbers are already there, hence, are not generated by Peachtree (they are imported)
Could this be part of the problem?:confused:

I would need to look at your import file in detail to determine the reason. An invoice number must be in that field, and the most common issue is number of distributions and line distribution not being correct.

?! Does the forum have something that would allow you to look at the import file?

I suspect this would have to be done at your consulting service, wrong?

What I would do is try to import the second record as a single record to see if it imports the invoice # properly.

It sounds like it may be needing more information to complete the first record(It didn't reach the end-of-record mark), so it is continuing and using the second record invoice number which is the wrong format.

PT is picky on what it needs from the .csv file. There are required fileds the csv file must include and in the correct format and in the correct order. I'm sure others here can help you configure PT and your csv file.

btw.. PT does not give support for this function, only the capability. Found that out the hard way about 6 years ago.

Also, each new version of PT sometimes changes what it requires and also changes the order for which it requires it.
