resetting auto numbering on sales order

I mistakenly put a project number in the sales order field for our very first sales order - now it automatically increments this number for each new sales order and has to be over ridden - I like the auto numbering capability - is there anyway to reset the field so that it will recognize a different series of numbers for auto numbering?

IIRC, during the printing process, at the point that you're prompted with the sales order number, simply override the default value, then future transactions should be automatically incremented from there.
