I have release 9 and have installed the program on the new computer. When I copy the data files to the new computer (installed old hard drive into new computer temporarily) and try to "open existing company", Peachtree wants to "update the data files" to the new version (it is not a new version). After doing this , it requires that I close out a year to access the current year and when I do, the data is not in the current year!
Any help on how to move the data to a new computer with out these problems?

If you can put the hard drive back in the old computer, here's what I'd do:
Use the Backup option on the File menu to create a backup of your data on removable media.
On the new machine, in Peachtree choose File, New, and create a new company. It doesn't matter what you enter, just walk through the wizard to the end.
With the new company open, choose the Restore option on the File menu to restore your old company onto the new computer.
This generally works without fail, but YMMV.
Just did exactly what you described.
Installed Peachtree 9 on new drive;
Restarted machine and opened Peachtree;
Shutdown machine;
Installed old drive (as slave) in machine with new drive ;
Sarted machine and copied the data directory for each
company into the new Peachtree Data path folder on
the new hard drive;
Shut machine down and removed the old drive;
started machine, opened Peachtree and went thru
file open to point to path for the each copied
company data directory.
No problem
(Had to replace old drive because of write errors
causing Peachree to require rebuild/reindex of
data several times.)

I wanted to thank you guys for the helpful suggestions. Backing up the data before moving worked like a charm.
I appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Richard
