journal header error 54

We were working yesterday in Peachtree 8 complete & everything was fine.

This morning we tried to bring up the computers & received IO errors on a workstation. The main machine had a security error & would not let the operator log on.

We tried reindexing file & we got a series of messages indicating error 54 & then giving a record Number of the error. 10 or 20 more of these messages came up during the reindex

We then got an error saying the reindexing can not be done because Peachtree could not find all the records.

Please give us some suggestions. Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

Your data is toast.

You have one of two options, Build a shell company and restore your last good backup or click on the Data Damaged? banner above and have your data repaired.

We could not restore the backup made in peachtree.

We make an additional backup using a program called "Backup Plus" and we store that data over the network on a different computer for safety.

We restored the data from Backup Plus and the program worked fine. We hve no idea of what happened between 5:00 on TUesday and 8:00 on Wednesday that caused the data to corrupt, even to the point where we could not restore the back up made by the Peachtree program.

For the future safety of your database. I would have the machine where the database is stored looked at by a professional. If the conditions still exist, your database could end up corrupted again.
