I'm using Peachtree Premium for NonProfits. I'd like to prepare and edit letters to donors, etc. inside the program, however Peachtree requires Microsoft Word to do this. I use Open Office software exclusively. Is there a work-around - an alternate, less expensive software package or something - that might work?
Thanks.

I do not have any experience with OpenOffice however, you can attempt to modify existing Peachtree related Word Documents (*.doc) by opening the files outside of Peachtree. You will find the files in question inside the LETTERS folder, located inside your Company data folder.

I dug down through the Sage Peachtree files to ...company\Letters\PAWmail.zip\Customer. The files are Read Only. I created a variation with the database fields and tried saving it to the Customer directory and received a general error message. Then I tried saving it to the Letters - it saved, but I couldn't access it from inside the program.
Checking through the various Customer forms, I found several that could be customized - these were mostly the label lists.
Oddly, these label forms that did include a Customize option will accept added Open Office text.
I think it's unfortunate that Sage has not made editing of all Letters using Open Office an option.
Unless I'm missing something?

It may be a licensing limitation with Microsoft, to allow them to be edited using something else. An example would be the SDK for Peachtree works with Excel, but not other spreadsheet programs that I am aware of.
