My hard drive crashed and I am attempting to restore from a CD-RW. I created a "shell" company, but when I try to restore from the CD I get the error message "Restore method doesn't match disk!".

Using Windows '98 - created backup file from peachtree and restoring to same version - backup file is a PTB file.

Any suggestions?

Are you sure the disk is readable? Maybe it's corrupted or in a different format?

The CD is readable. I have two CD-RW backup disks and the files are in the same PTB format on both. Cannot restore from either disk.

The problem I think I'm having is in accessing the PTB file. I've noticed that when I create a backup to the hard disk I end up with a folder with a bunch of dat files. Not the case with the backups on the CD's. Just one PTB file for each backup date. Don't ask me why there is a difference.

I did some reading on Peachtree's site and they mention PTB files and make it sound like a piece of cake to restore from them. I've tried doing everything precisely as they instruct and nothing works.

My opinion is that Peachtree's own documentation is 3rd class. I've never had such a problem with any software that I've ever used. And forget getting support from them without paying through the nose for it.

I've done many restores from the .ptb file on my CD without that error. Maybe Peachtree was corrupted when your system crashed or try another shell company?

I agree, I have restored from CDs on numerous occasions. It is a fast and simple process. There had to have been some sort of problem with the back up you made, as the error you got is not really common either.

Just out of curiosity, did you receive a dynazip error of any type?
