Hello, When I backup my data to a zip drive the file extensions are ".LCK" and "MPG DAT VOB" . Some how the file extensions have been changed(I Think). What should the file extensions be? If they have been changed how do I get things back to what they should be?
Thank you, Chris

Thanks for responding. I go directly from my Peachtree program, I go in to file/backup, then the box appears that asks for a destination which I have put in d:\BAK (d is my zip drive). I have simple copy checked and then I hit back up.
In my C:/PeachW folder the same type of files are there.
What extensions should I expect to see in this folder?
Thanks!
Chris

Make your zip drive non removable, then back up through Peachtree selecting file then backup, select your zip drive as the destination. This will create a .ptb file which is the correct format for a Peachtree backup file. It is compressed.

From your message "simple copy", I assume you are using a very old version of Peachtree. You will not see the .PTB files as suggested earlier. A simple copy will display files ending in .DAT, .LCK. .TXT, .LOG or .BAK (You may not have any .LOG or .BAK files)
Before you can change the association with these files, we really need to know what version of PT you are using, and what operating system.

Good catch Diane, I did not see the simple copy, you are right that has to be a very old version. I guess we get so stuck in current product that we sometimes forget some of the old stuff.
Thanks !!!!

IT IS RELEASE 6.0, BATCH 02 AND BUILD 68.2 and I use Win98.
The DAT files have the MPLYER icon and the LCK files have an icon that has an "A" on it with some lines. Why does media player associate with a Peachtree DAT file? Does it matter as long as you restore these files in the Peachtree program?
Thanks,Chris

As long as the files have the required extension such as DAT or LCK you will be fine. The icon associated with the file simple tells the computer which program to use if you choose to open that file directly ie: double click the file. Sometimes these associations are wrong, but it shouldn't affect how Peachtree restores the files or how they operate from within PT.
