Hi,

I've been using Peachtree for a few months and it's the first package of its sort I've used. I'd love to find some best practices/tips kind of information if anyone knows a place to get some (or good books?)

Anyway, I have a fairly specific question just now... I would like to generate reference numbers for transactions that are unique for an entire year and the same series is used for all transaction types. It seems that Peachtree wants you to manually enter the first number for each transaction type each month, and then will increment different types of transactions individually. Is there a way around this? How have other people dealt with this?

The only thing I can think of so far is using an external application to generate reference numbers and manually re-enter them in Peachtree. Ugh.

Thanks.

Two reference books I recommend are Peachtree for Dummies (http://www.acctadv.com/go.mv?id=pfd) and Learn Peachtree Accounting (http://www.acctadv.com/go.mv?ID=lpa).

You're exactly right on the reference numbers. The only way to accomplish this is externally. However, PawCOM (http://www.acctadv.com/pawcom) may simplify the process for you.

This is my only "beef" with Peachtree, G/L journal entry reference numbers. If they would just use the same technology as the check number field I would be happy <g>.

My workaround is to prepare journal entries in Excel forms. I increment with formulae. So far this has worked for me.
