I have broken out sales accounts for my company and I use service type invoices. I like my invoices to be one line item, but I cannot split my sales up between more than 1 account. Example: $500 but needs to hit web development at $250 and database development at $250. I only want my customer to see the $500. But, behind the scenes doesn;t allow this type of split unless you use more than one line item. Anybody know if I am missing something or another solution would be wonderful!

Can you make an "assembly" inventory item made up of Item #1 which is Web Dev & Item #2 which is Database Dev?

The solution I'd probably go with is a customized Excel spreadsheet that prints out the invoice that your customer sees, but imports a detailed invoice for your accounting records. This would let you key the transaction one time, instead of having to create a journal entry to split out the revenues after the fact. You'd have to enter the invoice again if you needed to send another copy to the client, say if they lost it, but that doesn't generally happen often.
The downside to CraigFL's suggestion is that I'll bet your projects vary in price, which can make the assemblies problematic.
Another option that you can look at is PawCOM (http://www.acctadv.com/pawcom). In short, there's not a quick fix. If you're willing to spend a little money, the process can be automated, otherwise, plan on recording journal entries to book the revenue, or just give your clients detailed invoices.
