Are you closing the correct year?

I am trying to close 2001. Have 2001 and 2002 open. After making backup during wizard the next button is grayed out and I can't proceed beyond that point.

Try deleting the following files from the company sub-directory while the company is closed: Alarm, Alert, Audittr.dat files.

deleting those files did not work either. Any other suggestions?

I am out of ideas, maybe someone else will weigh in, I have only seen this once due to the fact that you were able to bypass the backup option prior to version 2002. As of v2002 you MUST backup first.
Just a thought, is your backup completeing without incident????

Backups are fine. Tried hard drive, external and floppy! Have used Peachtree for many years. Upgraded to v9.0.01 and patch to 9.0.02. Nothing has worked. Would like to disable that wizard. Thanks anyway...

I will continue to look into it, I will be so busy at year end , if this is going to happen I would like to find out what causes it.

Patty,
go into integrity checks and reindex: chart, customer, vendor, jrnlheader, jrnlrow (ONE AT A TIME PLEASE), then run the synch tests on Chart of accounts, customer, vendor and inventory.
Let me know if this works.

Ran data verification first. No errors. Ran reindex and synch tests. Found a few synch errors in customer and vendor, but i'm still unable to get beyond backup on year-end wizard.

Installed Peachtree on another workstation on our network, accessed company data and was able to proceed with closing 2001. I must have a corrupt software file on my workstation and will uninstall and reinstall the software. Hope this helps someone else. Finally...on to the new year!

Hello gang!
Let me jump in with the same issue on 2004 Compleate....I have tried all suggested and still nothing.....wizard freezes on 42% causing HD and CPU to turn into a stove while pt.exe is not responding....
I have even send the data for recovery with PT and all they have given to me so far is :( "some data corrouption is in question"......
I upgraded from v 8.xxx and had no probles until now.....payroll year closed while the infamous 42% freez re-occurs...
win 2000 pro
win 2000 adv. server
win 98..
have demonstrated the same...re-install didn't make a differnce.....I installed the update as well....no errors retuned ( except for Synch tests that corrected a few errors.....
I am still stuck in on the old year!
anyone has suggestions?
thank you for your time!

let me add that:
except for Synch tests that corrected a few errors = were in Chart of Accounts and Customer.
as advised by PT support I did also:
--------------------------snip--------------------------
Delete the following files only Alarm.dat, Alert.dat Audittr.dat and Eventlog.dat. If there any files with a *.old extension or underscore in the name (example Company_.dat) delete them. Also move any *.ptb's, *.frm's and any folders within the company to the main directory or create a new folder within the directory to move them to
-----------------------snap-----------------------------
and still 42%....End Year wizard is more of a "timer" that guarantees app failure.....
is it time for QuickBooks and PT refund? :(
If anyone has any thoughts I would apprechiate an advise!
thanx

How big is your company folder?
You need to be doing the close local (not across a network)
Make sure no other apps (inlcudin virus scan) are running
If you company data is large it can take a while. I have seen closes of very large data got over a weekend, but as computers get faster and faster this doesnt happen as much.
Also as a side note: Just because it shows that it is not responding in task mgr, does not mean it is dead. This can happen when it is waiting on the btrieve database (w32mkde.exe) to finish and respond.

hi RetroCanino
I tried both suggestions already....its about 30 MB...
I will give it a one more try although it "looks pretty dead" after almost 2 hrs of waiting :(
thanx for the suggestions!

It could be data corruption. Did you go through data verification?

How fast is your connection?

Hello Jim!
I ran all the possible synch.index....and no love.
PT support came back to me and said that there were 2 entries that caused the corruption and that they managed to fix it....I don't know what tools they used but I am sure could not find any specific errors with builtin PT tools.
Let me also add that Btrive'sengine (w32mkde.exe) would freez along wit the PT.
All of my test were ran on pretty decent machine:
win2000 pro -latest patches
PIV 2.0 Ghz
512 Ram
bus of 120
so i know it could not have been the "power" of the system and patience had nothing to do with it :)
Does any one know of "other tools" that can be used to "DB snoop" and test data in PT?
All was told by support is that they used "their new tools that was just introduced".
I have beeb using PT from version 6 and it has never been in such a "bad shape" before... :(
Thank you all for the help and advices!
p.s. If I ever get a "true" explanation to what caused the corruption I will psot the info....
All the best!
