I recently had an error while posting an invoice. This is not all uncommon for our business. We use Peachtree 2003 on a Novell Small Business 5.1 server. The program is installed on each machine with the server holding the data.

We often get a posting error stating a file is in use (jrnlhrd.dat if I am remembering correctly). This occurs even if noone else is even logged into the system. Usually occurs on very large invoices or when posting rec'd inventory (again very large postings - often 5 - 15 pages).

Now, to my current problem. When the latest error occured, I did what I typically do to fix the issue. I backup the data and restore on one machine where it will let me correctly post the entry. I then backup and restore to the server. A headache but it usally works.

This last time did not work however. The invoice in question is posted really weird. If I print the packing slip it shows previous items shipped with alot of negative numbers when there were not any items previously shipped. The sales order shows the same thing. Any ideas on how to get this fixed? Thank you.

I would suggest deleting the entire transaction then reenter it.

I have tried that. Even with the invoice deleted, the sales order still says there are negative items shipped. I wanted to delete the invoice and sales order but since the sales order has activity (even with the invoice deleted) I cannot delete it.

Must some other invoices posted to the SO, delete them and then delete the SO.

Have you disabled your sql2000 on your Novell server? If not this may be causing a problem. I usually recommend moving to a peer to peer when I get a new customer on Novell. I have just found so many odd network errors using Novell with Peachtree. I am not sure if the QA for this program on Novell is not sufficient or what but the problems I have seen with Peachtree on Novell has caused me hair loss (pulling it out). On the other side of this, I have a customer on Novell 4 that has not had a single network problem with Peachtree, I call her the fluke though.

You can also load the integrity check and try to reindex the journal files to make sure an index has not become damaged. SO's are kept in the sales journal so yes they do post to the files you will be reindexing. Hope this helps.

TheWolf - Thanks for your post but....

No other invoices are posted to this SO. That is what is completely odd about this problem.

I have not disabled sql2000 on the server and do not know how to do this. Any pointers will be appreciated.

Also, I have already reindexed the files using integrity check.

Any other ideas?

It may mean alot of re-entry but I recommend a restore of a backup so you can trust a little more in the integrity. I would have to search the Peachtree Knowledge Center again for how to turn of the sql2000 and I am unable to at the moment.
