View Full Version : Moving data to a different computer

What files need to be moved when moving a company from one computer to another? I have installed Peachtree Complete v7 on the new machine, and have copied the data directory from the old machine to the new. When I try to open the company (the company name is listed when I hit the "browse" key, I get an error that it is not a valid peachtree company. Both computers are running the same version of the software, the only difference is that the old computer is running Win98 and the new computer is running Win2K. (I have even tried copying ALL of the files in the peachw directory to the new machine with the same results- are there registry or .dll settings that are needed to identify the company properly?)

Thanks for any help in advance. ;)

The error message you received can be caused by:

1. The software on one machine is older than the software on the other machine
2. Blown version.txt file
3. User's network password does not have full access rights
4. Workstation does not have Full Control of shared drive
5. Data file attributes are set to "read only"

Try the following to resolve your problem:
1. Check the batch or product number of your software on both machines: Open Peachtree but not a company. Select, Help, About Peachtree. The product number or version and batch numbers must be the same.
2. Copy the version.txt from BCS folder to your data folder.
3. Change the user's network password to have full access rights.
4. Change the rights of the Workstation to have "Full Control".
5. Change the file attributes on all the data files to "Archive".
(I would try #5, first.)
