Trouble closing out fiscal year

I cannot close out the fiscal year. I closed the payroll year with the new payroll year set to 2002. When I close the fiscal year the calander year (greyed out) is set to 2002. The field for which period to enter new data ( the only field the is functional) I have set alternately to period 13 (Jan 2003) and period 1 (Jan 2002) with the same results. A pop up window says;"Failure to close fiscal year, New periods could not be assigned. Restore from backup."
Am I doing something in the wrong order? What am I missing? Please help if anyone can. Thank you.

Sounds like you have some kind of corruption in your database that is preventing it from closing.

Why are you changing the periods? Are you on a non-standard calendar year set-up? Usually just selecting next takes care of things. Also, there is something in the Peachtree Knowledge center about this but cannot remember the exact answer.

Were any of you able to resolve the problem of getting the message "New periods could not be assigned!"?
