A client of mine has the following setup;

2 PC's networked sharing only Peachtree data. In December they upgraded from version 7 to version 2003.

Yesterday, the "attached" PC got some sort of i/o error while entering data in the purchasing module. Now the Chart of Accounts (COA) seems to have disappeared. The file (chart.dat) is still there, but you can't view the COA in the maintain COA option on either computer.

Ran a backup and then ran the data verification. The data verification found vendors and customers who had invalid account numbers and removed the account numbers from their files. Restored the backup.

Everything seems intact except the COA. Can I export the COA from a copy of their data file that I have and then import the COA into the existing company? What will happen with the balances in the COA that should be there?

Another problem we have is I'm not sure how recent of a backup they have. If the export/import option doesn't work, I'm probably looking at a full rebuild. Is that correct?

Any help you can provide will be highly appreciated.

Thanks
Jeff

If no good backups are available, the data can probably be repaired (http://peachtreeusers.com/datarepair.htm).

I wouldn't try to export a copy of the chart.dat file in. If no backups are available, your options are paying for repair or doing a rebuild. I'd go with the repair...rebuilds are tedious and time consuming.
