View Full Version : Time Tickets - Description for Invoicing is Too Short!

I work in a small consulting firm, almost exclusively a service-based model where we bill for time. We want to use the Time Tickets feature to track our time, but the 'Ticket Description for Invoicing' is too small. Most of our invoices have very few line items (many times just one), and the description is very lengthy.
For instance, we may send a bill to a client for seven hours of on-site work, and have in the description of the line item a paragraph detailing exactly what services were performed.
Can anyone help me out? I can't seem to find a way to do this. Is there maybe a third-party tool that will help? Thanks so much.

The Ticket Description for Invoicing field is 160 characters long. There is no way to alter this since this length is hardwired into the Peachtree records. If this is not long enough, the internal memo field is 1999 characters long. However I don't believe Peachtree provides a way of putting the internal memo on an invoice. To do that you would have to use an add-on product such as PawCom where you could create an invoice with any information you want.

Although I'm sure you're probably right (it sure sounds like you've got some accurate information), I'd feel a lot better if the recommendation came from someone who wasn't selling the product they were recommending.
Does anyone else have any input? I just want to make absolutely certain I'm getting an impartial recommendation. Thanks.

Oops. That last reply was from me, but I neglected to log in. Sorry!

Just look in the Peachtree help under Export: Time Ticket fields and you'll see the length of these fields. Sounds like the best thing for you to do is adopt an abbreviation notiation that lets you squeeze your descriptions into 160 characters.

Dave,
I always try to give an even handed answer to people who pose questions and not blatantly promote our tool. If someone elses product provides the right solution, then that is what I'll suggest. We practically insist that people try our demo before buying our tool because we don't want anyone to buy it if it is not the tool they need.
Your original posting asked if there are any third party tools that could help you. I didn't jump in and say that our tool was the answer to your problem, I presented you with accurate information about the sizes of the fields available and said that if you can't live with 160 characters, then you will probably need to use SOME add-on tool SUCH AS ours.

I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. Your information was accurate. However, you must agree that there is an obvious conflict of interest, and that I would be naive to accept the recommendation of someone who would benefit from my purchase of the product being recommended.
You have not misrepresented yourself in any way, but even still, the only wise course of action for someone (like myself) who is looking for a product would be to seek out an independent recommendation.
P.S. I also really do think that you should include in your signature the fact that you do work for/are affiliated with PawCom. People come to internet forums to get advice from their peers and people who have "been there before". They should know whether advice that they are reading is coming from another unbiased user or coming from someone selling software. Even if that person is completely accurate in his or her advice.
