Help! We are running PAW8.0complete, and we can't open our company's data. We are getting error 'unable to determine security privileges. Please retry later. This is probably due to another user temporarily blocking access to critical files.'

I kicked everyone out of peachtree...even disconnected users from the peachtree file server (an NT). Then tried again. No luck.

Tried reloading peachtree...no luck
we can open the sample company data files provided with the software, but not are own.

What's the problem? And more importantly, the resolution?

I just encountered the same exact problem last week. I tried re-booting all computers and the server several times and I also tried to reload the program. I finally got so frustrated that I called Peachtree who then advised that there was a corrupt file in my company. They told me open a new company and then restore your company's backup. Hopefully you have a backup to restore.

It does in fact indicate damaged data.

If you end up with corrupted data, and don't have a good backup, there is an alternative to starting over ... guaranteed data repair (http://peachtreeusers.com/datarepair.htm)

I also faced the same problem with my company data. Ended up I have to restore the backup to solve the problem.

My backup peachtree data twice a day (Noon and evening). This help a lots when your data is become bigger and bigger. Reenter will kill your staff.
