General Ledger Code Expansion

I am using Peachtree Version 8.0. The company has been on peachtree for 6 years. The General Ledger Code was set up as a 3 digit number. I am at the point of needing to expand to 5 or 6 digits. Is there an easy way to make that change?

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to change the size of the account numbers in your chart of accounts.

You basically have two choices:
A. 1. Start a new company
2. Enter or import your new account numbers
3. Enter beginning balances

or

B. 1. Enter or import your new chart of accounts
2. Make general journal entries to move the balances out of the old accounts to the new accounts
3. Change all the defaults and maintenance screens to reflect the new accounts
4. Make the old account numbers inactive
5. Hide inactive accounts so the old numbers don't show up in your lookups
