I closed out 2002 but I still need to access the information contained in that same year and am unable to. Do I have to create a new company to restore that information? I thought Peachtree maintains two years of information at a time, did I specify that deletion of information when I closed?

As long as you didn't purge, the information is still there. You're on the right track...create a new company, then restore your pre-year end backup into this company. Once you do so, make sure to go to Maintain, then Company Information and change the name to z2002 "your company here" or something to that effect. Putting a z in makes the company sort to the bottom of the list.

I'm a little confused, wouldn't I use the year-end back up to save to the newly created company?

If by year-end backup you mean the one that you created during the year-end close, then yes, that's the file. Basically, I meant use a backup that was created prior to the completion of the year-end close. The one that the software has you create as part of the year-end process works perfect in this regard.

Thanks for your quick response, I am going to do the restore this afternoon. I'm fairly new to Peachtree so your help is greatly appreciated, I have another question, the 2002 info that I closed was the first year of data for this company, doesn't Peachtree keep two years of data at a time and if so, why didn't it keep 2002-2003?

If 2002 was your first year of data, you actually didn't need to close the fiscal year yet. At this point, don't run the year end close in December of 2003...wait until December of 2004. If you had not run the close, then you'd have 2002/2003 available. Currently, you have 2003/2004 available, which 2002 available if you set up a separate company.

The reason I closed was because I couldn't get a current year income statement, what did I do wrong?

I'd need more background before I could answer that. Did you get an error message or just a blank report? Were you in the proper accounting period?

I don't remember an error message, I just tried to print an income statement for January 2003 and I think it showed data for the previous year also in the year to date column.

You may have data corruption issues. If you experience that again, consider clicking the Data Damaged link at the top of the screen.
