I am finding that my consolidate gl transfer reports iare too long and take up too much ink and paper. Is it possible to get the create report without actually printing out the consolidate report? I do not transfer to gl, but prefer to make my entries from the create report. I asked to print to screen and nothing happened. Do we really have to use 60+ pages of paper for this procedure?
Thanks for any help....Lin.

If you are using v11, control reports were mandatory and not able to be turned off.

In v13, you are able to elect whether or not to print reports.

Thanks! I have version 12 which probably is mandatory too. Can't find anything in the book on how to not print a report.
I appreciate your quick answer!

You are right.

Could lin set up a null printer and set the report to print to a null device?

Thank you, Brian: I didn't know we could set up a null printer. Do I just add the same type of printer on the next available port without there really being one there? Can't hurt to try that.
Thanks again, Lin.
P.S. Perhape I could upgrade my Peachtree to 13. I would certainly make up the cost of that in paper and ink saved!

Brian, I have never seen this work.

Lin, let me know if it does.

Thanks,
Michelle

I was just suggesting that as a theory. Never actually done it.

lin - what os are you using, this will help me look for appropriate info, and might allow me to test the theory

chikamic - any particular problems that you have heard of or run into?

Brian,

Sorry, I have no specific info, I just had a customer that tried for several days to make it work but could not. If you find you are able to make it work, please let me know.

Thanks,
Michelle

you should be able save the report to a file & then print the file to the screen in the utilities menu. I imagine PT is taking a long time to print the report to the screen & that is why nothing seems to happen.

Or just delete the file. I think there is a way to print to file using windows too. If not, I know that there are port redirectors that can do this too. The only hassle with this approach is that there is a file to delete afterwards instead of just printing to nowhere.

I will look into it more tomorrow maybe. It would help to know what OS we are working with though, as that will change the options we have.

I tried a printing to a text file with an invoice. It worked. Can you pick the printer that you want to print the consolidate report to? If so this will work.

Windows 98 appears to have a output to file driver installed by default. If you don't have this, I can look into it further. What I did is add a new printer in the printer folder, under Control Panel. I used the Generic/Text Only driver, which also came with windows. You may need your Windows CD to load the driver. After the printer is installed, just pick it instead of the usual printer for printing the consolidate report. It will ask you to enter a file name and a location to save the file. Just remember what you called the file and where it was saved and delete it after you are done with GL.

I think a similar approach would work in any version of Windows. It is possible that a third party printer driver may have to be installed on other systems, I'm not sure which versions had such a thing by default. I think that there are third party redirectors that are a free download and not to complicated to install.

If you can't pick the appropriate printer for the consolidate report (I don't remember if you can, I don't usually do this part), you may be able to set this printer to be the default printer, print the consolidate report, and set the default printer back to the usual printer.

It would have been nice not to have to look for and delete a file, but at least you should save some paper!

You can print to file. Report seems useless and a paperwaster until something doesn't match or balance. Can view file using wordpad. File extension ends up with a $ plus your company's id.
