Reconciling after a new year begins

My assistant has not balanced a bank statement since August of last year. I just discovered this today. When I go to reconcile for the September statement, the only checks showing outstanding are for 2003. Does PT do some sort of adjustment after a new year begins?

What is my best recourse? I got a call yesterday that we were overdrawn, even though I show over $20K in the bank, and when I started researching it, I realized nothing had been reconciled.

I am using PT Complete 2002 v 9.0.

It should not "automatically" clear your checks during year end processing unless, they were just cleared by your assistant to make life easier. I have seen checks go uncleared for several years and still show up in the reconciliation screen.
