Why can't I get peachtree to recognize that excel (office XP) is loaded?

Peachtree does not yet recognize Office XP, however if you go to the newsgroup alt.comp.software.financial.peachtree, there is a thread there called "Execl XP and PeachTree a simple fix!!!" that shows a work around by editing the registry.

Diane:

Could you possibly send the registry fix for getting Peachtree to recognize Excel 2002? I can not find this thread in alt.comp.software.financial.peachtree, possibly because it was published so long ago.

Thanks,
Barbara

Here's the fix you need to perform:

Make sure that you backup your registry before you do this. If you are not familar with the registry, PLEASE have someone do this that is technically astute.

1) Click Start->Run then type regedit.

2) Collapse the folder HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Application\CurVer until you see the string value name (Default). Modify the (Default) value to be Excel.Application.9 instead of Excel.Application.10

3) Collapse the folder HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Application.10. and Rename this folder to Excel.Application.9.

4) Your Excel button should be back in Peachtree. AFAIK, this will not damage or interfere with any of your Microsoft products or your Peachtree application.

Hope that help,

By the way:

FYI- for looking up old stuff in newsgroups use http://groups.google.com

and that also was published here under:
Peachtree and Excel XP (http://www.peachtreeusers.com/.forums/showthread.php?threadid=1248)

You may want to read that last post since David Ringstrom gaves another option to acomplish this.

Thanks Javier & Diane,

Fixing the registry works magically! The right-mouse click suggested by David Ringstrom doesn't seem to work on version 7.
