hi all, nice forum you've got here.

software: pt complete 2003

i recently started to notice that my inventory profitability and unit activity reports are way off. i have run the integrity checks and everything goes smoothly except the "inventory/journal" test under "Data synchronization tests". This test takes aproximately 3 hours to complete, and returns this error message:

20002 |I/O Error in file 'C:\peachw\bobllc\INVCHAIN.DAT'

i have contacted pt support and they said the only resoulution was to restore a known good backup. i have recent backups, but to my knowledge, they also have the problem. i am trying to avoid the restoration as it would require a huge amount of data entry to bring the restored company back up to speed. if anyone knows of a way around this, please post a response.

thanks in advance,
nic

Poblems with the inventory module seem to surface on July 1 of every year. PT likes to add prior year sales to current, but only for the last six months of the year. There have been many threads in this forum regarding this issue, but to the best of my knowledge, there is no answer. For six months of the year, I have to track my inventory manually by deducting prior year sales and of course, the profitability issue is just a joke! However, the GL is not affected by the bogus numbers, and you can still get a good picture of how the company is doing.
PS Look at Aug. thru Dec 2003 inverntory numbers, I think you will be surprized!

wow. although not what i wanted to hear, thank you.

if i understand correctly, it is something you just deal with, correct? is peachtree not aware of this problem, or do they just not admit to it? would doing a restore from a backup previous to 07/01/03, then re-entering all of the invoices etc. since then fix the problem? or once pt saw it was past 07/01, would it skew the numbers again?

thanks for your help,
nic

Althoug I am not a PT expert, I have used PT since 1993 starting with the dos version.
Upgraded to PT COM version 4 and then PT2003 complete.
The inventory problem started with version 4 and although PT tech guaranteed a solution if I upgraded to 2003, guess what..same old problem, same old answer....data corruption, not their problem, just pay to get if fixed, if you can.
Support NIL!
Once again, if you review the last year or so of this forum, you will find people with the same problem.
It just "magically" appears in July, lasts till Dec. goes back to normal in Jan thru Jun and then happens all over again.
I have been coping with this for years and re-entering your data will not alleviate the problem.
I can only hope that someone out there can prove me wrong.
