I just installed PPCA 2004 with the FAS option, single user, but data stored on server. Both installed OK, although FAS won't let the data files reside on a network, just the local drive. Each time I start up FAS, I get a lengthy message, the jist of which is 'You must open the Peachtree Complete Accounting product and save the General Ledger account information from the Maintain Chart of Accounts screen". I ok past this message box and am able to see all the assets. Does anyone know what they are talking about? I see no options such as this. Thanks for your help!

It is a stupid cosmetic issue everything works fine but seeing that every time can be a pain. There are 2 ways to fix it:
1. Close both programs. Then open Peachtree. When Peachtree is opened it will create/update appropriate file. After Peachtree is open, open FAS for Peachtree and map to company (File, Edit Company, Map to Peachtree)
2. While both programs are open, in Peachtree, open the appropriate company. Maintain Chart Of Accounts, bring up any account, (don't edit it), click Save. This creates file. Switch back to FAS for Peachtree, and remap to company (File, Edit Company, Map to Peachtree). After company is mapped, the error message should no longer occur.

A follow-on question regarding FAS for 2004..
when we upgraded to 2003, we were upset to see that there was no way to convert our existing FAS data to the 2003 product.
The yellow erata sheet in the box advised to run the old version of FAS and someday a a conversion utility would magically appear..
Has it???

Have you had trouble converting your fixed assets from Peachtree's fixed assets program to FAS? I installed FAS and it worked terrible. I re-installed fixed assets and use it with PT2004.
The technical support people told me it would not inter-face with version 2004. That is totally incorrect. Fixed Assets is a simple program, but it works. FAS is designed to be more sophisticated, in my opinion, it is awkward and does not do the conversion the way it should. I had a Peachtree support person admit that it does not work right.
I have heard that Best Software is pushing this product on the Peachtree Staff and Users. The next step is their stand-alone version which cost well over $1,000. I can not confirm this is a fact.

We are still running Fixed Assets (from version 6.0) it works fine for us...
With 2003, there was no conversion utility. (from fixed assets -> FAS)
Is there one with 2004??

I followed Michelle's post (#2) and was able to map. FAS 2004 appears to work fine. This was an upgrade from PT Fixed Assets from a earlier version (1999?). I was unable to do this conversion thru PT 2003, but the data conversion seems to be fine. I can see all my assets and have successfully calculated and posted depreciation for the current period. I will still keep PT Fixed Assets on my desktop just in case.
