Replaced bad hdd on a workstation, went to reinstall PCA v11 and found - guess what! bad floppies. Copied files from another workstation, including ptprn.exe, and made changes to autoexec.bat and config.sys. Reinstalled printer on parallel port (HP 3300 3 in 1) and unchecked "spool ms-dos print jobs."

Now - every time I start peachtree and try to print the first document of the session, I get a windows/netpeach device conflict and pca changes from window to full screen. Answer the prompt "yes, I want netpeach to take over the device" and my document prints - with all formatting lost.

Based on another thread here, I moved the overlay_heap command to the first line of autoexec.bat.

I had this problem when I first installed the printer a few months ago, and can't remember what I did to "fix" it. I feel like there's some step that I've missed in copying the program files. Can anyone tell me what it might be?

Thanks!

What operating system are you running on the machine having problems?? The more info I have, the better my chances are of being able to help.

Of course, sorry. Win 98se on peer to peer network. I call the computer in question a workstation simply because it doesn't have the pca data on it.

Thanks!

First try running recover data on your system files. If you have a backup of your system files you can also try restoring that. Please be sure to back up your data before attempting either of these.

If neither of those things work, then try creating a new CONFIG type (instructions have been posted here before).

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice, Michelle. I gave it a try, and didn't get any good result, except to remember that I don't have the right printer driver installed. So here's something that's not exactly on topic, but maybe somebody's got an idea.

The HP 3300 is installed on the parallel port (lpt1) with HP's PCL6 driver. I have advice from HP from this spring for using their Laserjet II, III, 5L or 6L for emulation. I had been doing this for some time, until I had this hard drive replacement. Now, when I try to install the II or III driver, I can't print anything - not even a test page during the install process. The error it generates is "Cannot access the port. It may be in use by another program."

(10 minutes later)

I got it! I just disabled the scanner monitoring software. That was the other program.

Thanks for your help! I wouldn't have got my head around this without you.
