Is there a way to set up the price levels of inventory items so that a multiplier can be used to automatically change the prices when the cost is changed?
Also can the "label" for price levels be changed from "Sales Price #1...#5, to something of my choosing?

Peachtree Complete Accounting version 2002 allows you to set up inventory pricing levels based on a calculation, i.e., last cost x 80%. It is under Maintain, Default Information, Inventory Items, Price Levels.

There are 10 pricing levels in version 2002. You cannot change the field name, however. This is hard coded.

For more information, email support@baytek.com.

In Peachtree Complete Accounting 2002 you can change the names of the price levels. Go to Maintain, Default Information, Inventory Items. The names are on the Price Levels tab and they can be edited.

Baytek, please be careful when you use the pricing levels. We had a disaster when we worked with them.

We entered all of the price level 1's. Then we added price levels 2, 3 and 4. We set it up as a calulation to reduce Price Level 1 by x%. We did this thru the price level screen. We entered all of the prices and then set up the price levels below each price level 1. Then we ran a report to verify that we had entered all of price level 1 correctly. This report also listed the other price levels associated with price level one. After we printed the report we noticed that about 15 items where price level 1 was keyed in incorrectly. We went back in and changed price level 1 to the proper price. Ran the report and verified again that all price level 1 were correct which they were. We then started to generate invoices. About 2 weeks later someone noticed that one of our discounts did not look correct. Price level 1 was set at $125 but the discount for price level 2 which was based on a reduction by 5% of price level 1 was reading at $95.00. Now mind you we did run a report to verify everything. But we looked at the price level 1 column to see that the prices were entered correctly. We did not look at each and every price level for each and every item to verify the prices. We knew we set it up to calculate based on price level 1 so why did we have to go back and check every one. Well it turns out to be we should have and you should also!! Note: If you change price level 1 in the maintain price level screen from a PREVIOUS value and click ok. you will get a small warning message that comes up and says something like "the values in red do not match correct pricing levels". But if you are quickly doing this it is quite possible you can miss this warning message because you do not have to acknowledge the warning in or to continue. Meantime, when I went back the first time to correc the 15 or so items that were incorrectly entered i had changed them thru Maintain Inventory Item screen. I changed the present price from whatever it was to the new price. well, needless to say again. If you change a price in that screen there IS NO WARNING that the otherprice levels do not corresponde correctly to the new price level 1. you have to actually go to maintain price level screen and click the recalculate button. DUH!!! if you set the damn thing up to change price level 2, 3, etc based on calculation of price level 1 why the heck would you have to click recalculate for each change. Of course you want the darn thing to recalcute with the new price level 1. I also look in the online usersguide for Peachtree and now where there does it mention if you change price level 1 in maintain inventory item do you have to go to maintian price level and click recalculate or all of the price are incorrect. so please be careful. I wrote a crystal report which takes each price level from peachtree, then calculates each price level by itself and shows a difference between crystals calculation and peachtrees calculation. if there is a difference it prints it if no difference there is nothing there in that column. I run this report on a regular basis to make sure all price levels are correct.

yes, with a gross error you can notice that one of the price levels are not correct but when the error is minor and your company works off of a tight margin you can loss money. I explained this to tech support yesterday and she said i was absolutely correct and she was bringing that to her supervisor for review.

we also had another situation with our invoicing. Not to get into details but we called tech support yesterday 3 times. Only the third person really knew what they were talking about. One of the people said that the reason why some of our prices on our invoices to our customers was not correct was because it depends on what cost you use in Purhcase Orders for that Item. Okay, so that person had no clue what they were doing. What the heck does a purchase order cost have to do with a sales order invoice for a price?? And another tech support person had to write down everything you told her and she had to put you on hold each time you asked her a questions to get an answer for you. YIKES!!! well I knew I had to say thank you to her and call back again. That's why we called back 3 times yesterday.

I'd like to point out that we have just released an inexpensive tool that gives you complete flexibility over changing price levels. You can define any formulas you wish and do the changes for many items in one operation. To find out more click the banner ad at the top of the page.
