When i connect to server from home....I call in to work, get connection, then start peachtree picking open co etc, choosing network drive d and the path numbers #####peachw, it seems i always have to hang up and call in again, like the server does not understand, then I go back to my computer right click and pick map network drive, then it tells me its already connected , then i have to go back to my computer and delete the connections, and go over this again and again, is there an easier way than to go thru all this frustration??? Help!!! thanks

First, check why your connection is not stable. Is it something wrong with the tel line? Check it's quality.

If you want to automates the drive mapping process, create a batch file like this:

net use d: /d /yes
net use d: \\servername\sharename

You can create a shortcut to this batch and just double click it each time for remapping.

While doing payments from home to server, it froze up, and when I called back it gave me the error "error reading general file for module 4" I called PT support, who told me the file is corrupt and I would need to do a restore etc, I asked how the file got corrupt and she said using the phone lines will do that, so I asked why they did not tell me this after I paid for a multiuser disc's, a separate phone line etc. Good grief, my backup is from Oct 21, I still feel that the payment file is the bad file, and why can't I do an export from Win Explorer, I don't feel comfortable with their answer and don't want to re enter all of this, can anyone help? Can any one help restore my files?? I will accept a collect call at 541-923-2050 . Thanks dole

Ptree is built on a Btrieve 6.15 database. This is a linear database that does not support any type of Ras or Wan access.Infact , if you called tech support and explained you situation, they would inform you that it is not supported.Thats , however, does not mean it cant be done. Most users that use the AT&T cleint to connect have no problems at all.Others that use Netifice are a crap shoot.
I believe that there are some downloads at Btrieve's web site that can help remote access for version 6.16.

The error in module 4 of GENERAL.DAT simply means that record 4 of that file has been corrupted. You should be able to extract only the GENERAL.DAT file from your Oct 21 backup with a ZIP tool like WinZip and replace just that file with fairly minor side effects.

The most reliable way to access your data from home is to use pcAnywhere or the free NetMeeting from Microsoft (which I prefer.) That way you are never doing any accounting operations across the network - all you do is map the screen, keyboard and mouse from your office machine to your home machine.

It is extremely dangerous to do what you are doing without a good backup. Backing up your data in Peachtree is extremely simple and quick. There is no excuse for not backing up your data daily to protect yourself. And if you are going to work from home you should do a backup when you leave work or when you first log on from home.
