Running version 13 on Windows 98.

In the Maintain Employees module of Payroll, I am attempting to add a new employee and get several error messages. It allows me to create a new employee code enter the name, address, ssn, etc just fine. Under the Rates and Flags tab it does not allow me to enter information into any field that holds monetary information, including Rate of Pay. If I use the F10 key to kick out of it, I get the following error:

PRMAINT
Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument.

When I click OK, I get another error:

System Error
Error #440 was generated by PrMaint Automation Error.

When I click OK on this one, the screen goes to a blank Peachtree window that I have to Ctrl/Alt/Del and End Task to get rid of.

With further inspection, I find I get a different error by simply trying to add Local Tax Info under the Tax Codes tab. I type the tax code for my state (Oregon) as it appears in all other employee information and the instructions provided by Peachtree. Then I tab to the next field in that row, and get an error immediately:

Peactree Classic Accounting
Error Number 120 0 occured! file 8

I click OK and get another error:

PrMaint
Run-time error '32767': Application-defined or object-defined error.

When I click OK, I get yet another error:

System Error
Error #440 was generated by PrMaint Automation Error.

This puts me back into the same dead window scenario. This apparently affects only adding a new employee, since I can edit existing employee information, close periods, and run data recovery all successfully with the Payroll module. Please help!

Your employee file contains corrupt data. To validate that it is your data, go into the sample company and try to add an employee. If it works in the sample company then that means the program is functioning properly and the problem id data specific.

Have you run recover on payroll?, if you have and the problem did not go away then you will need to restore a backup.
