Had to reformat computer. PT Accounting Rel.5.0 operating on Win98 prior to reformat. Upgraded to Win2000 OS. Upgrading to PT Acctg 2004 version as soon as year-end reports are completed for accountant.

PT data was posted through December 23, 2003 prior to reformat and was backed up to disk. Reformatted computer, reinstalled PT SW, & restored data. Now the latest updates to Payments, Payroll, Invoicing, Account Reconciliation, etc. appear to be early November. After performing Uninstall, Reinstall a couple of times without being able to see data for late November & December, I decided to re-post the November & December data.

When I attempt to change the Accounting period from November to December I receive an application error: “PEACHW caused a General Protection Fault in module PCHCTL.DLL at 0007.7. Choose Close. PEACHW will close.”

When I attempt to reopen PT I receive the following error: “A previous instance of Peachtree Accounting for Windows terminated abnormally. Please exit and restart Windows.”

This cycle of errors repeats itself with each attempt to open PT and change the accounting period.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

my plan was to upgrade to PT 2004 once year-end reports were complete -- I was concerned about losing data in the transition.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether or not upgrading now would resolve or further complicate my error problem described above? Someone suggested the PT release I've been using w/Win98 may not be compatible w/Win2000.

Thanks!!

This may be an OS issue.

What is the processor?
Ram?
Is your computer upgradeable to Win2000?

You may have to take your computer back to win98 and get peachtree working first.
Then I would do all you have to do for 2003 bookkeeping.
Then I would upgrade PT.
Then I would upgrade the OS.

Please keep in mind these are only my thoughts.

Thanks for responding.

Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2000+
RAM: 228,848 KB
Upgrade to Win2000 complete -- everything working well except PT.
I have access to another machine with PT Rel. 5.0. I may complete my 2003 bookkeeping on that machine, backup the file to disk and start 2004 bookkeeping with PT2004. I think I can create a new company in PT2004 using my 2003 ending balance as my beginning balance. I realize I'll have to re-create my customer, vendor, and employee records, but there's a lot of old junk in the original setup -- things left when someone was learning how to set things up -- that I'd like to get rid of.

I think this will work -- please let me know if you disagree.

the version of 5.0 is not compatible with win2000. you may need to set up config.nt and autoexec.nt to make it work.

I believe V5 came out before Win2K existed. At any rate, V5 has been obsolete for 4 years. You may want to try installing V5 on a system running Win98 or WinNT and see if that works. If it does, you might want to convert your data there to 2004 before moving to your Win2K machine.

The lost data has been re-posted, I've upgraded to PT2004 and, don't want to jinx myself, but seems fine so far.

Thanks very much to everyone for your responses & suggestions.
