I selected an alternative folder to store Peachtree data files. This works just fine, but there are a heap of files and folders. Can someone tell me what is what? Also, since I keep the data files on a seperate drive than my boot drive, if I would reformat my boot drive and reinstall Peachtree, could I just open the old data file and not loose anything? Thank you.

Hello Donald,

Your data and form files should be in a folder called Peachw or Peachw data. Your company files are stored in a folder named an abbreviated version of your company name in the Peachw folder. The other files in that folder are forms, help files, settings, and the taxtable. Some of the other folders are for the sample companies. They can be deleted if you don't need them. Otherwise you should save the everything in that folder. It would probably be a good idea to make another copy of that folder with a different name before you reinstall in case Peachtree writes over the file. The file location should be designated when you install Peachtree. Once the install is complete you can move your company file into the Peachw folder and Peachtree will find it.

Maybe your startup problem is related to moving folders around. It will most likely be solved when you reinstall Peachtree after your reformatting. Peachtree should automatically open the last company used the next time it starts. If you have moved the Peachw folder or some other file using windows explorer, Peachtree may not know how to find it.
