View Full Version : automatically calculating discount amount

I run a small frame shop and have a sale every now and then. There does not seem to be a way to automatically calculate a 15% discount (or any other amount for that matter) from the invoice total. I have looked everywhere. Am I missing something? The only thing that seems possible is to use the total, then calculate the discount by hand and then add it as a line item. What a headache - that's almost like going back to paper.

Using different pricing levels is not an option for me, because the prices of my inventory items (over 1000) need updating about every 6 months. I mainly just use the descriptions and update prices as I go along and use the items.

If using the pricing levels won't help, unfortunately, the option to use the total, then calculate the discount by hand and then add it as a line item is about the only thing you can do.

Diane,

thanks very much for your reply. Considering your level of experience with Peachtree I can finally put this issue to rest. I do have to say though that this sucks. That's a major shortcoming for an accounting program. WEAK!

I agree! I never realized until I saw this post that PT can not handle an item discount! At least Quickbooks lets you setup any discount percentage, subtotal your order, and apply any discount amount on the fly.

What channel can we go through to communicate back to PT that this is something that we want considered for a future release?

Check out the 11-22-2001 post "Invoice with Discount?" on the next page. It seems to be saying you can discount the total invoice amount.
