How do I get the components of a Bill of Material to print the cost of each component on a report? I have run the assembly list report but the most it will show is the item # cost which is the total of all the components and only after I build it in Peachtree.
Example: Item #10001 has 30 components in the bill of material, the total cost of the item is $5,000.00. The report shows the item #, 10001, and lists each of the components but we are unable to get the cost of each component. It will show the total cost of the item #. $5,000.00 next to each component if I have built the assembly in Peachtree.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have looked and tried all the reports.

New setup? Which version of peach are you using? This sounds like a crystal report-you need to design it.

I am using Peachtree Accounting Complete 2004.
I know nothing about crystal reports.

I haven't tested this, but I think that if you export the Assemblies list using the Select Import/Export choice on the File menu that you may be able to open the list in Excel and have the details of your assemblies.
There may also be a built-in Inventory report that you can modify. Hope these quick thoughts help!

We are using assemblies and it is true that you cannot get the costing on a report unless you Build the Assembly. The reason for this has to do with your costing method. For example if you were using average costing and had a cost but no quantity this could lead to divide by zero errors which no computer can handle. A divide by zero error will crash a computer.
Not being able to cost an item in peachtree without a quantity is true throughout peachtree. Annother example of this is beginning balances. When you are entering beginning balances the Unit cost will not be excepted unless a quanity is entered.
One way to get around your problem in assemblies is to build one of each assembly then run your report. After you have the report then go back and UNbuild the assembly. This will give you the information you want and also keep your inventory counts correct.

If I build the assembly the only cost I get is the total cost. As in my example if the total cost of the assembly is $5,000.00 the report will print $5,000.00 next to each component. It will not list the cost of each component in the assembly.

You can run the Assemblies Adjustment Journal and add the Item ID field to show you the cost by component. It shows the total cost and the number used so you could just send it to excel and put in a formula to get the unit cost for each component.
Hope this helps!

I'm sorry I assumed you were running the Assemblies Adjustment Journal report.
A note of caution however. In many of the reports the calculated cost depends on your selection of costing method; average, FIFO (first in first out), or LIFO (last in first out). There is a good discription in the Peachtree help files.

Lisa, I think I love you.
I've been trying to do this for years and have never run the Assy Adj Journal report. It sure doesn't sound like a report that would have component costs in it... Sigh. I think I could cry.

Ah, this is why I do what I do - to make people love me! LOL
Seriously, it is very gratifying to help people. Yesterday I helped a client shave 10 hours off of her month end report process just by teaching her a few things in Excel. Made my day!
