Have friend bought new 2002 version and he says that the pervasive 2000 (btrieve) version is now not compatible with their other applications on the NT network which use Pervasive 2000...causing conflicts. Friend says the new 2002 now uses btieve 6.5...anyone technically knowledgeable about this? Did Peachtree move backwards with the new version and are not supporting the Pervasive 2000 engine anymore?? Thsi si casuing some realy concerns..any work arounds?

Peachtree has never used Pervasive. Unclear what your are asking. Are you getting specific error messages? Peachtree has used Btrieve V6.15 for the last several versions. Are there other programs that are being used that are using Pervasive that are causing conflicts? Please provide more info.

We were reading the posts from end to beginning and ran across yours. Pervasive is the company that created Btrieve. They stopped supporting Btrieve in 1996 having moved to a relational database version they called Pervasive SQL. Peachtree follows the modis operandi "If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it". They may have an underlying motive in that databases are now open and moving to a Pervasive next gen product would have opened their database to third party developers and enhancement they would prefer to control.
Most newsgroup members, at the time, thought "2002" would be the version that made the jump to current technology. We even had some inside information to that effect. Alas, that was not the case. Those that upgraded decided to stay with a Rube Goldberg version of 1996 Btrieve and most consultant companies were quite pleased in that the clients always call with the same issues over and over for which they have the stock answers (at a price).
Personally we think Peachtree's turn away from a free 90 day support period, insistence on keeping the database closed and refusal to fix many issues until you pay for an upgrade will turn out not to have been in their best interest.
Maybe in the Peachtree 2015's version they will use Pervasive 2000 (which should be 15-years-old by then) !!!
:-)
Somebody told me that Peachtree 2003 is coming up ? Is it true?
Isn't too fast to have another version lying around there ?
To me sounds like upgrading Windows 98 to Windows Me. While in fact it was more like a downgrade.

It's been a long time Peachtree sticks to btreive 6.15 since version 7, which is a stable engine but not so efficient compared with the newest btrieve engine.

Actually Peachtree Accounting for Windows has been using Btrieve V6.15 as far back as we have been using Peachtree, which goes back to V3.5.
I suspect one reason Peachtree has stuck with this older version is the licensing cost. They probably struck a pretty good deal back in the days of 6.15 but Pervasive probably wants too much in royalties.
Compatability has always been an issue for Pervasive-based applications. Back in the Btrieve days it was very common to have all previously installed programs using Btrieve to break when a new Btrieve-based application was installed. I've heard rumors, however, that Peachtree Accounting for Windows will actually run with Btrieve 7.0, which is the low level of their SQL system. Can anyone confirm this?
Sooner or later Peachtree probably will have to get away from Btrieve 6.15 since Pervasive considers it to be obsolete and there is no guarantee that it will continue to work with future flavors of Windows. What would make sense is to go to SQL Server, since that is a robust Windows-based system. However that would require a significant redesign of their database schema and the low-level code. I believe they were headed that way with POA.
As for Peachtree 2003: they decided to call V9 Peachtree 2002 just to totally confuse us, so it seems reasonable that they might want to call V10 Peachtree 2003. On the otherhand, maybe they will call V10 Peachtree XP or something else completely off the wall.
Peachtree Complete Accounting 2003 XP Late Millenium Edition NT (a.k.a. v10)
What do you think about that name? :-)
Does anybody knows when Peachtree is planning to release v10 (or whatever the name is) ?

Robert:
We've seen posts here that claim to be running on Pervasive 7.6 without a problem.

With the last change in presidents they decided to issue an "upgrade" every 10 to 12 months to maximize revenue per product. That's OK; we buy a new version of Micrsoft Money every year so big deal. But cutting off support, charging for work arounds on broken parts is shooting your self in the foot.
But for Sage, oops, Best Software, they own so much of the market now they can dictate terms (Microsoft of Accounting Software).

Peachtree, as installed, uses an included V6.15 engine by calling the Btrieve component WBTRV32.DLL. If Pervasive 7.6 replaces this module and redirects calls to its new libraries, then Peachtree actually would work with 7.6. However, if the interface to 7.6 is not through WBTRV32.DLL and it does not replace this file, then Peachtree wouldn't actually use 7.6. I don't know the answer to this one.
