I have a problem that occurs when exiting peachtree that causes the program to freeze and generates an error message to send to Microsoft. This problem has existed since I purchased 6.0 in January. The first time I addressed it with Peachtree they identified it as a conflict with one or more Windows XP SW updates and had me remove update #826939. Since then I have called Peachtree several times and depending on my persistence have gotten a variety of responses such as; the problem doesn't exist, I need to purchase a support contract to speak with a support person, a fix is still in the works and the most recent, 6.0 is being replaced by a newer version and no fix will be available. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I am concerned about security issues when deleting Microsoft updates and hope that someone has figured out how to solve this problem.

I may have been incorrect in refferring to this as version 6. The box lists the software as PT Complete Accounting 2004 build 11.0.01.033

You are not alone with this problem. I have discussed it with Peachtree a number of times and gotten the same answers as you did: "remove security patches".

I have refused to remove these patches because they close backdoors to the XP operating system. As you can see by this weekend's Sasser worm invastion which uses these holes in the operating system, it is not good to remove the security from your systems.

As long as Peachtree insists on using DDE server connections instead of ODBC connections this problem will continue to exist and will probibly get worse as upgrades to windows operating system are issued. DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) is antiquated programming and just about all database software companys have stopped using it.

What Peachtree is saying is that this is Microsoft's problem and ignoring the fact that when numerous other server software products work just fine their's doesn't

So what can you do in the mean time? The same as number of other user's are doing LIVING WITH IT.

A note of caution about this abnormal shutdown: When Peachtree hangs like you have discribed the server connections are NOT closed leaving your server open to hacker attacks through the internet. The only way the server connections close in this case is by performing a Shutdown or a Restart of all of your workstations.

I'm Sorry I can't provide you with any help with this problem but I have been unable to get any help myself.

Thanks for the reply. Today I reached someone at Peachtree who says as of yet they haven't come up a fix but Microsoft is also working something.

He referred me to this posting from the MS website that addresses this problem.

Thanks for the web connection. I did some checking on one of our workstations and timed how long it took to shutdown Peachtree.

This "hang" only occurs when there are more than one user logged into the same company.

Peachtree did shutdown on its own just like the article mentioned: 70 sec. (35 + 35)

Thanks again it looks that may be some progress is being made on the problem.
