I don't know how to ask this question without giving a lot of details, so here goes:

I work for a Mechanical Contractor. We do a lot of prevailing wage work. This results in some of our employees getting paid as many as 7 rates in one week. The employees have a medical deduction that only applies when they work prevailing wage jobs. We also have some union employees that have Union deductions.

Currently we use ADP as our payroll service. I make a journal entry at the end of each week to show the transfer from our general checking to our payroll account. At the end of the month I make a journal entry to record the taxes and ADP fees, medical co-pay, etc..

This works but its not the best solution. Currently I have to record the labor hours via an excel spreadsheet. This gives me a report to call into ADP. Unfortunately, this keeps PT out of the loop when it comes to costing the labor to the correct job. This sheet also needs updating constantly as jobs and rates change which is a major headache. Currently we do not match labor costs to jobs because of the massive amount of time this would take.

I would like to set up payroll in PT and kind of 'Ghost' ADP but my fear is this: while this would give me job costing I think it might cause me problems because ADP has responsibility for the taxes. In other words wouldn't PT prompt me to write checks to our state local and fed tax agencies?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.
