I am trying to move Peachtree to a different logical drive. When I do this, and Peachtree is shared exactly the same way it was on the oniginal drive, users can not get into Peachtree and they receeive the following message:

File system error number: 35 in file: D:\Peacht~2\status.dat:

and then...

Call Technical Support

and then...

Program Error
Fatal File System Error

Is there something that needs to be done in Peachtree after this change?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Susan

Can you explain in more details how you move the files? What files have you moved? From where to where, etc?

I copied the folder 'Peachtree Information' (contains all PT data files) from partition F to partition D. I stopped sharing the original folder and shared the new one with the same name. Users map to this folder as J:\Peachtree Information. The mapping still works fine, I can see the new folder from the workstations. However, when anyone tries to open Peachtree they get the error message.

Thanks for your help Jacky!

Error 35 always relates to a networking problem. I did notice, though, that you have peachtree installed to a folder called PEACHTREE INFORMATION. I have noticed in the past Peachtree having problems when the folder name is longer than 8 characters. I would definitely rename the installation folder where Peachtree is to something 8 characters or less.

When you moved the data, did you also install Peachtree to the new location using the network option? The program files need to be installed on every workstation using Peachtree. Once that is done, you should be able to see your data.

I see your point about the folder name, but I'm not sure I understand the other part. Should I re-install Peachtree on the workstations? Everything was up and running just fine before the data was moved. And it was only moved to a different partition. The share name is exactly the same, and we use log-on scripts to map right to it.

For example, in paw70.ini it say that the data path is J:\Peacht~1 and that hasn't changed. Even though the data moved, the drive letter stayed the same. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Susan

Please check:
1. User rights settings of the new share folder
2. File attributes ( are the files become readonly? )

Still no luck...

I set the user permissions exactly the same as those for the original folder and the file attributes did not change at all. Thanks for the suggestion, can you think of anything else that might cause this? I'm really stuck!

Error 35 means PT can't see the location it's told to look to. That info is stored in the Windows folder in the peachtree ini file.

First, open the Windows folder and look for a file called PCW80.ini or PCW90.ini or something like that (depends on your version). Open that file and check the line that says Datapath=. For example, it might say Datapath=G:\peachw where "G" is the drive where the data is located. Next, check the drive mapping and make sure the machines can see the "G" drive from "My Computer" (not Network Neighborhood).

If you need help, email me at dkoers@home.com and I'll give you my phone number and walk you through it.

Hello,

Looks like I'm having a problem similar to Susan's.

When I'm trying to open PeachTree (I have complete, release 6.0), I'm getting the following error message:

"Peachtree cannot detect your data path. Determine if you have access to the drive where your Peachtree data is stored. Verify that all network drives are connected and Peachtree is installed correctly on the network."

I checked and found out that I can see the server through My Computer and in PCW80.ini DATAPATH=G:\peachw (G is my accounting drive letter).

Do you have an idea what could be a problem? Other people who share the same data can open Peachtree without any problems.
Thanks in advance.
Luba

Dear all,

I found something interesting of the last post. If the Peachtree is version 6.0, the ini file should be named paw60.ini instead of pcw80.ini. So, is it you have 2 different versions of Peachtree using? Please check paw60.ini also.

Another thing, if you've several versions of Peachtree and you install them all to the same location in network. The older versions will give an error message like this since obviously different versions will have different database structure. I think this explain why error 35 occurs for status.dat.

To test it, try to reinstall Peachtree and set program and data path all to local. Then, when open company, browse to the network drive. ( This is just a workaround, it's better to install separately to 2 different locations in the network. )

Hi Jacky,
Thanks for the prompt reply.

In my workstation that is having the problem I couldn't find PAW60.ini file, neither in other computers. I found only PCW80 and PCW90. Does it still mean I have 2 versions installed?

Is PAW60.ini required? If it is, why I do not have it?

Thanks again,

Luba

At this point, I suggest reinstalling PT and choose Network install and make sure the datapath is pointing to the correct drive.

I also recommend you first rename the D:\PEACHTREE INFORMATION folder to D:\PEACHW so the data path will be:
D:\PEACHW instead of D:\PEACHTREE INFORMATION. It should work fine after that.

BTW: The fact that you have both PCW80 and 90 is OK. Only the current version INI file is used.
