Peachtree 7- moving from NT to XP

I have a Peachtree user tryng to move their Peachtree 7.0 from an NT machne to an XP machne. They reloaded the 7.0 software and are tryng to restore a back up to get the data onto the new maachine. They have two issues, one they cannot get the registration # to work and two they get an error when trying to restore the back up file. The error says that the file is not a valid peachtree back up file? It is a file with the correct syntax of a ptb file. It is company name_date.ptb? The NT computer that Peachtree is running on is still up and running. Would I be better off to copy the company files and paste them into the newXP machne?

You probably have updated your version 7 from the original CD. Winzip will work unzipping the ptb. But you will need to make sure that the version is the same (help, about p'tree accounting)
