I have a workgroup that I am trying to turn in to a Windows 2000 domain. The domain is up and running AD just fine, but when I login and try to use Peachtree Complete 7.0.03, I get this error "Btrieve initialization failed with error 20." Peachtree.com says to add the user to the power users group, which I cannot do because of the domain. I have tried giving the domain user full control of the local drive to no avail. The only way I have gotten it to work is give domain admin rights to the user, which is not a very secure solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you install Peachtree from an Administrator's acccount?

Error 20 means that the user is not able to run the Btrieve engine. Assuming it is installed correctly, it sounds like this is an issue of giving the user the right to run the Btrieve engine. The files associated with the engine are in your System32 folder and are all the files that begin with "W32" and "Wbt". Try giving the user full control for these files.
I had the same problem when I first installed. You need to create a user group with access to Peachtree. Then create a dummy user with only access to Peachtree and install it with that dummy. That will make sure you have got all the permissions correct for the install. You will have to uninstall and reinstall to get this to work.
Bummer...

I spent a few hours on this one..
You need to add domain users permission to
the registry key
uh [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Btrieve Technologies].
or maybe some ini files... I set permissions that this link said to
http://www.f9.com/support_b8.html
Still trying to get peachtree to stop asking for the reg key
on a normal user.. Trying to avoid adding admin permissions
