I have version 2004, which I upgraded from a DOS version 11. I had pretty well mastered the DOS version, but due to a hardware failure in June, I updated to Windows version 2004. So far I have been pretty disappionted in this product. Some background: I have a small industrial distribution business, I sell new and "surplus" or used items. With the DOS version, you could get backorders out of the system with relative ease, with this system it seems you have to enter a whole new order for a backorder. Very hard to keep track of. Also, when doing general journal entry from previous months, how can you enter without messing up current month. In the old system you just did all adjustments and closed, with this system you have to close the period first, it seems. Any suggestions for a newbie?

DOS had some features that this version doesn't have. Changing from the DOS product means there are features you may lose.

I'm not sure I understand. Were you doing GJ entries after the period was closed, and not having them flow forward? You probably want training, support, or more documentation. Look at Diane's book, or one of the class manuals.

Using sales orders will help you keep track of backorders. Whatever is not invoiced, remains for the next invoice.

When Jim say's "Diane's book" he means Peachtree for Dummies (http://www.acctadv.com/go.mv?id=pfd) (bad title, great book!).

Thank you for the info. I think I shall have to invest in that book. Although there are some real nice features on the Windows version, its been a little difficult to "bend my mind" around this version after 10 years of DOS. I'm not giving up on it yet. Hopefully the book will help me.
Thanks again,
Chris
