I have a customer who has been attempting, off and on, to upgrade from 6.0 Plus to 8.0 Complete for over ONE YEAR without success. He's made numerous calls to tech support and never gotten the right answers. They always refer him back to the same knowledge base article which never resolves the problem.
Why does Peachtree not verify the data before attempting to convert to a new version? Errors in the dat files are causing the conversion problems so why is there not an automated verification/repair facility that won't risk further problems the way "repair company" does? Why when you call support do they act like you are the first customer who has had this problem? I guarantee that others have run into exactly the same thing as this customer but Peachtree obviously don't add any of the information gathered from these cases to the knowledge base.
Why do the installation/upgrade instructions not give any hint of how long the procedure can take? Most users are going to expect something like this to take, what, 20 minutes or so? Then they see something cranking away for hours, often looking like it might be locked up, and it scares them. Heck, I do this for a living (not Peachtree, thank heavens)and the time required for the upgrade shocked the hell out of me! How on earth can a consultant, on site, sit for the requisite 20-25 hours for this is beyond me! Pardon the long vent but I really think Peachtree needs to improve their support and their documentation 'cause what they have now just isn't cutting it!
