PT has detected the approaching yearend, and kindly offered to fire up the Year-End Wizard and close 2003, and that's fine by me. So, I cycle through a couple of screens and then get a warning that PT has detected unprinted Payment checks, Payroll checks, W-2 forms and 1099 forms.

I searched this forum and found how to sort all transactions by reference number for the various tasks. Yes, there are items without reference numbers in the data. The problem is that they are mostly junk and all of them go back several years -- way before the open 2003 calendar year, and therefore I am unable to edit them.

I assume my predecessors over the years have just gone ahead and closed the previous year without any damage being done by these open items, and that I am free to do the same. I just wanted a reality check from you folks as this is only my fourth month using PT.

Yes you can just go ahead and close the year but if you want to get rid of them, go to Reports, the area in question, open the folder of the form you need to print (payroll checks, disbursement checks or whatever) double click the form, enter the information you want to effect and use in the filter area and then make sure you have blank paper in the printer. For check numbers use something you know is not a real check, i.e. bad01, as a starting point.
