We have a networked license of PT 8. Most of the time I am on the network and am able to run PT with no problem accessing the data on the network drive.
I need to be able to use PT to access an "offline" copy of the PT data for problem solving and testing of reports, etc. (I do not need to save any changes to data back to the network drive).
When I try to start PT, it thinks this is an unregistered version of PT and gives me 10 uses. When I try to type in the serial number, it doesn't accept it.
I know that I need to change the ini file to point to my local C drive for the datapath and helppath, and do a restore of my database onto my C drive. Is there another file that I need to copy over too from our network data to make this work?
thank you !

hi,
this may help. i have done something similar when troubleshooting for my client (account ***** does not foot in period ** problem.... )
not being able to register a copy of your peachtree is a mistery, the easiest way is to uninstal, shut down, start, and reinstal peachtree on your local hard drive. there are no additional files that you need to copy.
you can have your notebook point to your local hard drive, when on the network you can still access the mapped network drive by clicking the "Browse" button and selecting the mapped network drive.
when on the network, backup the company files to your local hard drive - it is fairly fast to make a back-up. then create a company on your local hard drive and restore the company back-up file. you can then work on it.

This is what I did (restore the company), but there is another file that I need to copy over too in order to make this work. I have done this before, but cannot remember what file(s) I need to copy.
If I do the reinstall, that will just buy me 10 more uses before it stops working again. The problem is that the license code for the networked version does not work when I my laptop is not on the network, as the software is comparing it to something that is inside one of the system files located on the server. That file is the one that I need to copy over in addition to the data restore.

that is odd.
when i reinstal to my notebook, all i had to do was reenter the product registration code and i had it working again without the 10 try limit.
the peachtree product code is fairly straightforward - to get it working a person just needs a valid serial number and registration number. this is a problem when tackling software piracy. in malaysia most software products now require unique serial number and registration number for each company name - if any of these three do not match then the system will not work.
