Closed 2001 By Mistake

I believe I accidentally closed the 2001 year by mistake after installing the update and tax table update in Peachtree Accounting for Windows, Version 8. Now what? I haven't run W-2's yet. When I try to run a 2001 W-2 it gives me data from the only 2002 check I've run. Am I up a creek? Will I wake up from a bad dream? We're still looking for a recent backup around here.

Your best bet is to restore a recent backup if one is available.

For w-2 purposes - here's a possible solution:

Since Payroll Year 2001 is closed you can create a new company and export the necessary info. The new company must have the year 2001 as it's current payroll year. First you'll want to export the G/L (very easy to do) and then export the employee list (if there are few employees it may be easier to re-enter all EE with the basic info - exporting EE list can be kinda tricky). Then find a payroll register that has 2001 YTD figures on it (assuming you printed one out for your last payroll); enter the YTD figures for each EE under Maintain/Employees/Beginning Balances (See manual for specifics on entering Payroll Beginning Balances); enter whatever payroll entries not included in those YTD figures thru Tasks/Payroll Entry; run a Yearly Earnings Report and hopefully the final YTD figures will be correct.
