in our company folder a strange file has appeared and tonight the backup went from 38,000 KB to 150,000.
Backup is extremely slow. otherwise everything else works fine in peachtree.
i noticed there are 3 other folders with different numbers but start with ZA.... also. if I delete those out it looks like the backup will get back to about teh same size it was before.
no extensions on folder. no virus problems on computer. data verification checks out. stumped if anyone has any ideas.

I believe those are failed backup files. I've seen them a number of times at several different clients. You can delete them.

And the reason that your backup files grew is that the Z* files were included in the ptb file. When a backup is made it adds all files in the company folder EXCEPT for the existing ptb files.

Not to wave a DANGER flag too hard, but there is a reason your backups are failing. You should research that

i think one was because the server was being backed up and accessing the file the exact time someone else was trying to back up.
peachtree tech also thought it could be 'zone alarm' program. don't know what that is for sure but did recently start using a pop up window stopper... maybe they did it... will monitor. apparently zone alarm stops zip files from being created on your computer and that interupts the peachtree backup....

M GO BLUE is correct in saying that you need to figure out what is causing these files. An occasional z* file is understandable but if you are getting them all the time then something is wrong.
Zone alarm is a firewall program. Since the file is on the network server you need to tell it to allow winzip.exe access to your intranet. It should have prompted you to allow/deny access but other than that it won't interfere with the creation of the backup file unless you denied it. Open up ZA and look under programs. Change the permissions to Allow for Winzip and see if that fixes things. If you were prompted and denied access then PT could not finish the backup process. Try running winzip on the files in your company folder and set it to Allow.
