Trying to muddle through posting of payments recieved, I use a laptop at work (XP) and the wife uses w2000 at home. The "Purchases/Inventory recieved" windows look similar, but on her machine the GL accounts column does not appear.

Any thoughts?

In order to show the GL accounts go to Options>>Global. On the Accounting tab you can specify to Hide/Show the GL accounts for A/R, A/P and Payroll. Check/Uncheck the ones so that both of your machines are in synch.

Man that was quick, thank you so much.

Bit of a newbie here, so I'm trying to resist instant gratification by switching to a lesser, but maybe more user friendly system like Quickbooks. In the long run I think I'll be better off if I can actually grasp PA and make it work for me...

I personally like PT because I find it easier than QB but that's just me. I learned QB & PT at the same time and found that I liked PT better. I also have an accounting background so that might be part of it.

Since you are new to PT get a users manual or a training book like PT for Dummies and go through the exercises in the book. Play with the sample company files that come with PT. Make a backup file of your company file and experiment when you are having questions about how to do stuff. When you are done experimenting, just restore the original company file and make your real changes.

Just remember that in each task screen there is a icon labeled "Journal". When in doubt about the journal entry behind what you are doing, click on this button to see the transactions. As long at that looks correct then you are in good shape.
