Hi all
We are currently using PCA 8.00. We used PCA 8.00 since April 2001. Recently we found out that our system is slowing doen, especially, when we retrieve invoice and po.
We used Edimax switch and all terminal is at leat 128RAM, Server on peer to peer is 512RAM. Netwotk cable are fine and tested. All terminal run on WIN 98 SE.
Please Help and assist.

If hardware fine, probably it's caused by the transactions stored in Peachtree's data files.
Check the File statistics in Peachtree's help menu, esp on the jrnl rows item, check the figure.
Also you can try defrag the server disk.

Our File for Journal row is 80051 and total is 55766 kb.
Is this too big and what is the maximum capacity that peachtree can handle for single day transaction and what is the maximum transaction that PCA can capture.

Journal row file of 55766 kb, that means over 50MB, you can imagine retrieves such a large file is time-consuming.
So, large file size is the main cause of the slowness. Sorry.
There's no rule for what should be the maximum size for Peachtree's files, our experience is even over 10MB will see significant decrease in performance. Of course, if your workstations and server have sufficient processing power, with fast disk and network, this can be improved.

Have you defragmented all systems? Badly fragmented disks can really slow down systems and cause a significant increase in errors.

Sorry to give a wrong info. What I mean total is all the file total size is 50mb not journal row. Journal itself is quite big also around 30Mb
We try to defrag and use 7200 bps hard disk to see whether the system still slow down or not.
Thanks for your kind help and wish to wish you a happy new year 2002.

Remember the figure 7,200 is just he rotational speed of the HDD. There're still many factors that influence, like the HDD buffer size, the IDE channel speed ( that's ATA66, ATA100 or even higher ), and whether RAID is used and RAID type and so on. The fastest is not 7,200rpm. Fastest HDD is already well over 10K rpm. ( rpm - rotations per minute )
