WE HAVE FOUR WAREHOSES WHICH ALL STORE IDENTICAL INVENTORY ITEMS. IS THERE A WAY TO KEEP THESE WAREHOUSES SEPERATE IN OUR INVENTORY? ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

unfortuantely Peachtree advertises that it monitors inventories in different physical locations as giving you the ability to enter a LOCATION in the inventory master file. HOWEVER and this is a big however - it is NOT a true accounting. Meaning, you need to assign different item numbers for each exact inventory item from the different locations.

Example:

Your warehouse locations are:

NYC
CAL
COL
PENN

Your item # is: 1234

Your first one would have to be:

1234NYC

Second one would have to be:

1234CAL

and so on.

Then when you generate reports etc you have to manually calculate how much inventory you have of that one item at the 4 different locations. Keep a standard on how you name the inventory items so they always appear in the proper order.

For all items at your NYC warehouse always enter the item number first and then follow by NYC; be consistant.

A true location tracker will list the inventory for a specific item in different locations as follows:

Item #1234

LOC QOH
NYC 25
CAL 35
COL 10
PENN 30

Total QOH all locations: 100

Believe me this did not make me happy either when I found out. I had to not only assign item numbers for different locations but also different types of inventory for one item # at the same locations because we had received some merchandise that was not made exactly to our specificiations to the vendor. The merchandise was okay to sell to some customers but not others so for 1 item I could have 2 differenty types of that same item in one physical location. WOW A true multi-location inventory tracker would still allow me to do that and still give me a total accounting for all the different locations as follows:

Item #1234

LOC QOH
NYC 25
CAL 35
COLmat 6
COLins 4
PENN 30

Total QOH all locations: 100

In the above example all the locations had the same quantities as the previous example but the COL location had two different types of that item notated by "mat" and "ins" but at the end of the report it would still give the total QOH for all of that same item. The same item number would be used all the time however when you enter a value in the LOCATION field it assigns that location to that item number whereas with peachtree all you really are doing is setting up a totally different item number each and every time and giving it the same description as the previous ones.

Oh, and another fun part is when you want to report sales of that item you have to report sales of 4 different items and add them together manually (or bring them into excel)
