I am running PT Complete 2005, network version. On one PC I attempted to enter a vendor purchase and received the message: "I/O Error in file 'p:\trenbeei\vendor.dat'. Error reading or writing to the file." I closed PT on that PC and signed onto the server where I got the same message in any input screen I tried. I attempted to run Data Verification on the server. The message: "You are attempting.... single-user access..." appeared although all other PC's are off. I then attempted to run a restore from a recent backup. Same "...attempting..." message appeared. I assume at this point I need to reinstall PT, yes???
Thanks for any responses/information. Carolyn

Today, I was able to open PT on a workstation and perform sales/payments. At the server, I entered the purchase which hung PT yesterday + added a couple receipts of checks. BUT, when I go to my main office PC, the company in question is not even listed as a choice (I have 5 total). The other 4 companies appear to be functioning correctly.

I was able to restore my latest backup from last Wednesday, and I was able to run the company OK from one PC and the server. It is, however, the main office PC which now has a problem. All PC's are networked to the same shared directory on the server. Maybe I need to reinstall PT on the main office PC? What will happen if I repair the data, as that will affect the PC and server which appear to be working OK, right?

I would try putting a copy of the company file on the hard drive of the main office PC to see if you still have problems.
It might be worth reinstalling PT on that machine but chances are it will only allow you to do a "repair" of the program. This won't impact the actual data files. It is possible that you are having either configuration problems or there is something wrong with that PC unrelated to PT.
Have you been able to run data verification yet? The multi access message may be caused if you have only exited PT on the networked PCs but not actually shut down or logged off of the network user. There are things in memory that don't get cleared until you either reboot or at least log out of the user ID. So with all network machines off I would try running the data verification again just to be sure that the data files have not gotten corrupted as a result of the problems you are having.
