*** ERROR MESSAGE ***
Account ### does not foot in G/L
Account ### does not foot in General Ledger because of an imbalance in the chart of accounts. In order to correct the error, you must run the Integrity Check test called Chart of Accounts/Journal to synchronize your account balances with the General Ledger.

I have always wondered what "does not foot" means. Can anyone explain exactly what that means and maybe even why it's called that?

Error coding I think. I think when peachtree adds up the transactions, it doesn't match the calculated balance. But I never was a peachtree employee so that's only a guess

The trasactions are kept in the Jrnlrow.dat file, (and that also connects to the Jrnlheader file). The Totals are put into the chart.dat file
Chart.dat controls financial stmts, as well as Trial balance. This file is small, so reports pull up quickly.
The General Ledger report interfaces the Journal and Chart files, and when Beg balance plus net transactions does not equal ending balance, you get the error.
My understanding is the Chart/Journal sync test changes number in Chart file to match transction.
I did not work for Ptree, jut supported it from version 3.0 forward

What I have seen in the past, is often when you change an account type from a non-balance sheet account to a balance sheet account or visa versa, this error may occur. This error can also be generated by physical damage to the jrnlrow.dat file. Always check your trial balance before and after to see what has changed. I also recommend downloading the data checker from this forum and checking your data for physical damage prior to running any integrity checks or data verification.

I had the same problem & tried everything (data verification & integrity test) but nothing worked. In the end the problem was fixed by 1st running "repair company" & next running "data verification checks".... you will need to 1st close peachtree & go to the peachtree icon & right click on it. Once open I went to properties & changed "C:\Program Files\Peachtree\peachw.exe" to "C:\Program Files\Peachtree\peachw.exe" -i
