how to upgrade from PT5 to 8

did a search and can't find any solution. I exported my peachtree 5 files to my HD. when I installed peachtree 8 and tried to import, it keeps giving me error messages.

how do I go about this

What's the error message? You can check it from the errorlog.txt within peachtree's program directory.

tried looking at the error list and cannot find it.

when I try to open the file directly, it states:

there was an error opening ConnCO.dat

I created a new company in peach 8 and when I tried to import, for example:
customer.CSV, the message states:

an error occurred importing the file customer.CSV
this happened on:
line number: 1
field name: G/L sales account


Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Please read the user guide on "Import/Export Data." Very likely the problem is caused by incorrect order of import.

The suggested order is:

- Chart of Accounts
- Employee List
- Vendor List
- Customer List
- ...

For example if the account code is not yet imported to Peachtree, when you import customer list first pointing to a non-existence account code, then error.

hi, I tried that and the chart of account was imported. when I tried the next step, it already gave me the error message and I was only importing the id and name, nothing else.

I think I have to load 6, then 7. the peachtree site does not provide much either.

I am a Peachtree consultant and have doen this many times.
After you have installed and started version 8 simply access your version 5 data files and peachtree will convert them to version 8 with virtually no trouble. Be aware that the size of your company data may have a profound effect on the amount of time this conversion takes.
